The Lil'wat Nation along with the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre will kick off Whistler's Torch Relay Celebrations on Monday, March 8th with a Torch Lighting Ceremony. Starting at 11:15 outside of the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, the torch will be lit and blessed by Lil'wat elders and spiritual leaders.
There will be singing, drumming and a performance by Hoop Dancer Alex Wells. Parking is available at Day Lots 1, 2 and 3 and there will be free hot chocolate!
Follow the torch as it leaves the SLCC at noon and heads to the base of Blackcomb Mountain where it will be uploaded to the peak and carried across the Peak to Peak Gondola! After being skied back down the mountain there will be a procession from the Whistler Gondola to Village Square and a Traditional Welcome to kick of the Whistler Ceremony at 3:00pm. At 3:15, 40 torch bearers will carry the torch in a loop through Whistler Village arriving back at Village Square at 5:45. During this time there will be entertainment, face painting, crafts and art demonstrations.
