Chief and Council

The government of the Lil’wat Nation consists of one Political Chief, one Cultural Chief and nine councillors elected to a two-year term of office. The Political Chief is the respected leader and spokesperson for the Council and the Lil’wat.

The Chief and Council have a legal duty to protect the lands and assets of the Lil’wat Nation. They also set the overall direction of the administration. Additionally, Council is required to fulfill community responsibilities through taking on various portfolios that address: housing, education, land use, fisheries, community wellness, social development, external affairs, agriculture; recreation, economic development, and culture/heritage.

Chief and Council meet bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Ull’us Community Centre. Council meetings are open to Lil’wat Nation members and the minutes of all meetings are available to Lil’wat Nation members from the Council Executive Secretary.
