Mt. Currie Health Centre is seeking a Community and Homecare Health Nurse to join their dynamic health team. CRNBC registration required. We are looking for strong leadership experience in community health nursing and a strong commitment to the improvement of First Nations health. Challenge, autonomy, and teamwork await the right individuals in the beautiful Pemberton Valley located only thirty minutes from Whistler.
Summary:
The Community and Homecare Health Nurse will work in the community health and homecare programs. The community health program is one that enhances the health and well-being of the people of the Mt. Currie community especially infants, children, mothers and pregnant women. The homecare program work will specialize in client centered acute care, diabetes and chronic disease management.
Other objectives include Community health promotion, prevention, education, intervention and support to community members as necessary or by referral. You will work closely with Mt. Currie Health Centre staff to ensure health needs are identified and priorities are set and met.
Tasks and Functions:
A variety of nursing responsibilities including but not limited to:
Community health- community immunizations, promotion of health, infant development, breastfeeding support, family planning, home visits to newborns, support to the Prenatal Clinic when necessary, referrals to outside agencies, updating client files and creation of quarterly reports to the Health Director. Homecare- acute post-hospital care, client education aimed at self care and complication prevention related to chronic conditions, diabetes education and care, in-home palliative care.
Qualifications:
Knowledgeable in diabetes and cardiovascular care, as well as of the stages of change and how it relates to client education and care. Nursing registration and membership with the College of Nurses of British Columbia and Immunization Certificate mandatory. Knowledge of First Nation culture is an asset. The applicant must possess and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License and own a vehicle.
